Alphabetizing a mailing list

I understand how to alphabetize a list, but I want to alphabetize a mailing list by addressee. Nothing I've tried so far has worked. I suspect it has something to do with the sort function, but maybe not. Can someone help?
Thanks

Is this an actual list in your document, or is it in a spreadsheet or database, used to produce mailmerge labels?

1. Highlight the text
2. Tools > Sort
Use the options to sort on the correct item - you may need to edit the list to line up the columns.
It is almost certainly better to store an address list in a spreadsheet as you can then have a separate column for surname making sorting easy. Bring the names and addresses into a Writer document using Mail Merge - see
Chapter 11 - Using Mail Merge in the Writer User Guide or search the forum for countless posts.

- My Christmas card list spreadsheet - it has a split window so I can bring the Surname column to the left when I need to
