[Solved] Cannot open AOO files on network

I ran a test.
I can open Word and Excel files on a NAS.
I cannot open Open Office Writer files on a NAS
I saw a tip to install Open Office with a -net parameter, but this made no difference.
My conclusion is there is some event or processing that recognizes the .doc, docx, and xlsx extensions on the NAS.
Does anyone know of a similar setup on an NAS server for Open Office file extensions?
When I try to open an Open Office Writer file, the Open Office splash screen appears then and then is killed.
I've tried adjusting the SMB settings in windows - no help

Hi and welcome to the forum!
I have split your post from the initial topic that was solved and is 15+ years old, and slightly different

When I try to open an Open Office Writer file
Does this mean by double clicking on the file? If so, what happens if you start OpenOffice and then use File | Open?

Using Xubuntu (linux) I set NAS shares to automount at boot on my desktop and can access all OpenOffice files on these shares.

I have a TerraMaster NAS device. I'm unsure how to setup a SMB connection to mount a folder on the NAS to a local folder on my computer. I have the same username and password on both devices. Under Shared folders I do see an SMB option. The mount path is set to a folder on the NAS device. It asks for the network segment allowed to access. My computer is named savannah so should I enter \\savannah\common. Or can I do the same with an NFS connection or a symbolic link. I think one of the troubles I had is that my passwords did not match. Any help you can give is appreciated.

I was able to solve the problem by entering the machine and setting on the NAs SMB settings. What confused me was that I was entering the specs for the Nas rather than from the client. This fixed the problem. So, what appeared to be happening was that Open Office could not access the NAS, but instead of displaying an error message it just shuts down.
