[Solved] Cannot open files on network
One of the computer in my office cannot open any file on the network.
When I go to the network drive and click on the file, it does not open.
The Open dialogue doesn't show the My Network Places on the Desktop, and the Open dialogue is very different from what it should be.
I have tried to reinstall Open Office but still the same.
Btw, this computer is using wireless network connection while the others are on cable.

Try setting Tools > Options > OO.org > General > Open/Save Dialogs > Use OpenOffice.org file dialogs: NO (unchecked). See if that works any differently.

Re: Cannot open files on network
Hi acknak, thanks for your reply, now it's working.
But, now another weird thing happens.
When I open a file on another computer on the network, after I close the document and open the same file on another computer, I was prompted that the file is "being locked for editing". I've tried to close Open Office, or even restart the computer, still same.
Any idea?

Have you upgraded all the computers to OOo 3.0.1? I believe the locking problem is something that was fixed only in the latest version.

Re: Cannot open files on network
I'm not sure which version I installed. Have to check that on Monday.
But it never happened before this, just starting few days ago.
And the surprising part is, even I shut down the offending PC which appears to be locking the document, the document is still locked!
Btw, I can rename the document and open it with no problem. But if I make some changes, save it, and try to rename it back to the original name, it'll appeared as locked again. So there must be some information embedded within the document that "tells" Windows that it's locked.

Re: Cannot open files on network
Right--OOo 3.0 and following signal that a document is in use by creating a specially-named file alongside it. If the document is named "sample.odt" then the lock file is named .~lock.sample.odt#. Until OOo detects that it's appropriate to remove that file, it will still exist and lock the file. The lock files are normally hidden and excluded from a file listing.

Re: Cannot open files on network
Well, then I guess there must be something wrong with that PC or/and the installation of OpenOffice on it.
Since the lock file cannot be deleted as you suggested, then I think I can try to reinstall the OpenOffice on that PC.
P/S: I'm getting more and more frustrated with OOo on things that I can do with Excel with ease

If OOo or any part of it running, you can not delete it.Since the lock file cannot be deleted as you suggested
Check if quickstarter running, and quit, try after that.

r4zoli, I'm referring to the .~lock.sample.odt# and not the document itself.

Re: Cannot open files on network
Hello,
I've been having this same problem but only recently. Before, I can access any shared document (writable) from the network with no problems. But lately, when I try to open some files from the network it also says "Document is locked for editing by..." although the files I tried to open are readable AND writable.
I've tried to look for the hidden file .~lock.[document name].odt# by showing all hidden files in the folder (in both computers) but there aren't any. I've tried restarting both computers still to no avail.
Anyone can help?
