[Solved] Turn off formatting from copy/paste

Post by DavidGYoung »

I am aware of laughably inaccurate instructions such as these:
viewtopic.php?t=39705

However, I would like to know if there is a way to turn off all automatic numbering, all automatic paragraph indenting or bullet points and all automatic everything when I cut and paste different pieces of a document. I know it's a radical idea, but I would like to place the actual set of letters and numbers that I have selected into an existing document and leave the rest of the document unchanged.

Has anybody at the programming end of OpenOffice Writer developed a solution to this?

Edit: Changed subject, was Just switch everything off

There is a tutorial about turning off automatic formatting and input here. I'm not sure it covers all your needs. The indentation of paragraphs is also controlled by the paragraph style. If you are pasting whole paragraphs from .odt documents, you may be introducing a new paragraph style to the document receiving the text. If you could explain the exact steps you take, including the kind of source document, and upload an example of the resulting document with formatting you don't like, it might be possible to give you more specific advice.
Pasting with Edit -> Paste Special -> Unformatted Text often prevents importing unwanted formatting.
OpenOffice 4.1 on Windows 10 and Linux Mint

FJCC suggests Edit -> Paste Special -> Unformatted Text. You can define a keyboard shortcut for Paste Unformatted if needed.

The OpenOffice is a dead project.
I suggest you to use the LibreOffice.
