Although new on the forum here, I'm a long time user of OpenOffice; I've avoided MS Office whenever possible. OO has always made it easier to do what I want.
As the treasurer of a club, I have to maintain a database of the club membership and visitors, which I do in an OO spreadsheet. Searching information using the "Find" function is straightforward, and has always worked.
Today, every time I tried to "Find" something, OO crashed & went into automatic recovery. I figured it was an old installation, maybe a file or two got corrupted along the way. So I checked if there was a newer version. Sure enough, OO 4.1.16 was sitting there, ready to go. So, rather than deal with the old version, I upgraded. First time through, the installer hung, but no problems on the second try; it went right through & gave me what I thought was a clean install.
No such luck. The "Find" function still crashes OO, sending it into auto-recovery. (This is exacerbated by OO throwing the recovered filed up on random screens of a 5-screen system.) Has anybody else run into this, and is there a fix for it?

Re: "Find" Function Crashes OO
Give LibreOffice a try and see if you have better luck with that. There are several good reasons for making the switch anyway, some of which are mentioned here: [Tutorial] Considering a Switch from OpenOffice to LibreOffice? Some Useful Information
LibreOffice 25.8.7.3 (x64) installed to Windows 11 Pro. 25H2

I suspect you are using the Find feature of Calc, not its FIND spreadsheet function.
If this solved your problem please go to your first post use the Edit ✏️ button and add [Solved] to the start of the Subject field. Select the green checkmark icon at the same time.

Have you considered something significantly more robust: LibreOffice
LibreOffice 26.2.x on Linux Mint Cinnamon 22.3
