[Solved] Check for update failure

Post by djrchas »

4/22/08:

I am a new user of Open Office and have just installed version 2.4.

When I open Writer, click Help, then click Check for Updates, this error message appears: "Checking for an update failed."

How can I make the update function work correctly? Is there a firewall (or proxy server) setting that might cause this problem?

Any suggested solutions would be much appreciated.--djrchas

What OS?
Have you any firewall that could preventing OOo from accessing the web?
LibreOffice 25.2 on Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE 7 Gigi) and 24.8 portable on Windows 11.

My OS is Windows XP, my firewall is McAfee (v.9.0.136).

Again, any suggested solutions would be much appreciated.--djrchas

Have you tried to disable your firewall just for few seconds while you try the feature?

Thanks again for responding, Hagar L'est.

I'll consider turning off the firewall briefly as you suggested, although that makes me a bit nervous.

When I get a result, one way or another, I'll post it.
