Issue with export to PDF with an odd filename

Post by kcojuser »

I support OOo in a government organization and today I had a user call saying that their PDF's were corrupt. I of course jumped in and say to check the automatic filename extensions box in the export window, but she said that it was already.

After paying a visit, she was right. So I did some trouble shooting and as a by pass installed a PDF print driver.

I think the problem is with the filename she is using:
  • legal.op.video.rec.3rd.def.doc
I created a blank word doc (2003) and renamed it to the above filename, did a PDF export with the above check box enabled and sure enough it didn't append the .PDF at the end of the filename.

Is this to be expected/normal :?:

Environment:
The end user was using OOo 2.0
I use OOo 2.3.1
Win XP SP2 for both machines
Also have Word 2003 installed
Doro Print Driver

What do you mean by the document is corrupted? The content is messed up? Can you open it?

I can't reproduce that on my Ubuntu box with OOo 2.3.1. Can she upgrade? 2.0 is deprecated now.
LibreOffice 25.2 on Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE 7 Gigi) and 24.8 portable on Windows 11.

It's not corrupted. It's still a PDF, just not with the .PDF file extension.

Also if you create a .ODT with the same filename, it exports to PDF as expect (with the .PDF extension) so it only happens with .DOC

I was able to reproduce it and I have a fresh install of OOo 2.3.1, windows XP SP2, and word 2003 installed.
My coworker was able to reproduce it, he has OOo 2.0, windows XP SP2, and word 2003 installed.
My girlfriend was able to reproduce it, she has OOo 2.3, Windows XP SP2, and word XP installed.

Steps to reproduce on a Windows XP Box (need to uncheck "hide known file extensions" in folder options -> view tab)
  • Goto Desktop, right click -> New -> Text Document
    Right Click -> Rename -> type "legal.op.video.rec.3rd.def.doc"
Enter, click Yes to change its file type
    Open legal.op.video.rec.3rd.def.doc in OOo
    Export to PDF
Navigate to folder where PDF is saved, and see what the file type it is
Open the file in Reader to verify that it is a non-corrupted PDF document.

Same with StarOffice 8 update 5 on XP SP2.

It's not limited to PDF export. It looks like any file save / save as / export with a name in the style example.aaa will not be given its automatic extension if aaa is recognised (registered) by the operating system.

I can't find this in issuezilla, although I might have missed it.
