[Solved] Writer auto typing

Post by Jeff Williams »

A friend is running 4.1.5 on Widows 10. When she types 'the' in Writer it prints on the screen 'when' and when she types 'I' it prints 'my'.
I have looked in 'Tools', 'Auto Correct' but can not find anything obvious. I am at a loss to help her.

Try /Tools/ Autocorrect Options : Replace tab, and see if there are entries in left column for "the" and "I", If so, highlight each of those lines in turn and press the Delete key.

Your friend is probably the victim of a (more or less) "friendly attack". This kind of joke is frequently played on users who are sloppy with leaving the computer logged in, giving other people access to the account/profile.

Tell her about the "desktop lock" keyboard shortcut: +L. This works almost like logging out (login required), but all running processes and open windows are retained.
Of course, that will only work if her account requires a password/PIN or other login secret to allow access.
