I got this new eeepc laptop and it has staroffice on it. (linux is the os)
Now, I'm using Staroffice 8 Writer and i go file > open
then i try to open blah.txt
just a plain text file that i had on my other windows pc
instead of opening, it says: text import
then i press OK and instead of opening with writer it opens with calc!
I'm not sure what's wrong, I don't know if it's me or the software, and I never had this problem with openoffice on windows.
Anyone have any ideas? I'm completely stumped and I've been googling for an hour.

Re: opening .txt with staroffice writer, opens with calc instead
In the file open dialog, try explicitly choosing the file type as text or text encoded.

choosing filetype text doesnt work, but choosing text encoded does!
thanks so very much.
complete aside from the that, is there any convenient way to make it remember to do that every time i want to open a text file?
if not i can deal with this at least!
