Keyboard Problems after install
After we installed OpenOffice on our home computer, the keyboard is now out of synch - the keyboard works but "types the wrong letters".
Re: Keyboard Problems after install
Going to need some more information here.
1) You installed an old version of OOo, any reason?
2) What language version of OOo did you install?
3) What language is your OS in?
4) What kind of keyboard do you have? (US international, French, etc...)
5) What langauge is the keyboard set to?
6) What exactly do you mean by "typing the wrong letters"?
7) Is the problem occuring in OOo only or in all programs?
There should really be no way for an OOo installation to mess with your keyboard BtW.

I don't know if I can answer all your questions - but will try:
1) You installed an old version of OOo, any reason?
We thought we were getting a Java update but got OpenOffice instead.
2) What language version of OOo did you install?
don't recall. I'm sure I would have chosen English
3) What language is your OS in?
English
4) What kind of keyboard do you have? (US international, French, etc...)
I don't know. It's a Dell keyboard & we are in the US & speak English
5) What langauge is the keyboard set to?
In Control Panel, Languages it is set to US - English
6) What exactly do you mean by "typing the wrong letters"?
If I hit the "A" key another letter appears on the screen
7) Is the problem occuring in OOo only or in all programs?
ALL Programs. We really can't use the computer right now.

Ah, so not only is Sun pushing OOo by questionable means, they're also pushing and old version, nice going there.jrichwagen wrote:I don't know if I can answer all your questions - but will try:

Now that i have never seen. Does the problem go away if you uninstall OOo?jrichwagen wrote: 6) What exactly do you mean by "typing the wrong letters"?

We tried, but it kept failing. Partly removed.

Can't remember - but it made no sense to us. Obviously, we can't use the computer to post anything to this board. I am at work right now.
Do you think we should reinstall OpenOffice and then try to uninstall?

It's worth a shot. Don't use the Java installer thing though, download OOo from the official site instead.jrichwagen wrote:Do you think we should reinstall OpenOffice and then try to uninstall?

Perhaps you'll need to clean the registry before reinstalling to be sure there is no deprecated keys that could mess up the system.
