I have open office on my laptop working OK. Running widows 7 Home edition.
Have installed it on my box computer and the pound key has changed to the hash key (#). Running open office 4.1.5 on widows 7 PRO.
Could this be the reason, Home is different to Pro.?
Tried 3 different key boards, all the same.
Checked the language is English UK.

Check that your keyboard layout is set to USA not UK in the O.S. (Windows?) control panel.

The pound key and hash key are the same key.If the
pound @ key changed to the double quote key, then the keyboard layout may have been changed from English (UK) to English (US).
Switch between languages using the Language bar
Edit: It occurred to me that while the "pound key", the "number key" and the "hash key" are the same key on a US keyboard, the "pound key" is a different key on a UK keyboard. Nevertheless, the change is still probably caused by a change in the keyboard layout setting in Windows.

Pressing Alt+Shift will switch the keyboard layouts.

Topic review: Pound key has changed to a Hash key - WHY?
After a long time trying to sort this out, the simple explanation solved the problem.
I found out that the key board seems to revert to US, and to get it into UK I had to be in the program,
( Open office ) and then; as was suggested click on the EN logo near to the clock and change it to UK.
Hay it works ! I spent several hours trying to sort this - Thanks to everyone who replied, all info has been noted for future use.
