[Solved] Calc Printing Problem on 1 File
[Solved] Calc Printing Problem on 1 File
This only occurs on one Calc file.
I have my Cannon Printer set as a default
But
On one Calc file, when I go to "Print"
The form that is displayed shows "Microsoft XPS Doc Writer as the default printer.
I have to select my Cannon printer manually
How do I get the printing to stay as the default Cannon printer?

Re: Calc Printing Problem on 1 File
Review File → Printer Settings and option Load/Save → General → Load printer settings with the document. Try changing that option. Also try changing option OpenOffice → General → Print dialogs to see which one works better for you. Options are set with OpenOffice → Preferences on a Mac, Tools → Options on other platforms.johnoo wrote:How do I get the printing to stay as the default Cannon printer?

Have tried both suggestions but still have the problem on just 1 Calc fileMrProgrammer wrote:Review File → Printer Settings and option Load/Save → General → Load printer settings with the document. Suggestion 1:- If I go to File/Printer Settings, there are no options to adjust. I can just change the Printer from my Cannon to M.Soft XPS.
Suggestion 2:- If I go to OO Option/Load/Save General Load Printer Settings with the document, I have both Load specific user setting & load printer setting both checked.
So any other advise please?
Thanks

Re: Calc Printing Problem on 1 File
The printer dialogue remembers the last printer used and offers it. Use the correct printer once and it will then be offered.

I have now printer the problem document by manually selecting the default printer .
But when I go into the file to take another copy the option of printers has reset to the M.Soft XPS.
Note I'm using Win 10 & have the Cannon printer set as default.
Any more advise please?

Is that file native ODF type or some other type? This only occurs on one Calc file.

Re: Calc Printing Problem on 1 File
I think the printer offered is a Windows decision (Windows remembers which printer the .exe used last time) and not an AOO decision.

Went into Win. 10 settings/Printers & found the the box to let Windows manage default printer was not checked.
So checked it.
Then on the offending document changed printer to the Cannon (default) took a print.
Then went back to Print & the printer had changed back to Microsoft XPS!

Re: Calc Printing Problem on 1 File
As I do not have W10 I cannot test.
I suggest you reboot after your change and do some diagnostic testing with a few applications and spreadsheets to track down what is causing it.
I do not believe AOO has anywhere to store the printer ... though I may be wrong with spreadsheets because of the way that a spreadsheet gets split up to fit the printed page.

Edit: I stand corrected. settings.xml in a .ods spreadsheet file does store a printer name. settings.xml in a .odt text file does not store a printer name. The image below is settings.xml from a .ods file. |

Re: Calc Printing Problem on 1 File
It appears that if I open a .ods spreadsheet file and print it to Printer_1, do some edits, and save it, then Printer_1 is saved in the file.
If I now open the .ods spreadsheet file and print it to Printer_2, and close the file, Printer 2 is not saved in the file (and the file was not marked as available to save). But if I make a trivial edit so as to make the file save-able after printing, and save the file, then Printer_2 is saved in the file.
Note that the printer is stored as a "set of characters giving its name". Presumably, if I rename the printer, the link to it is lost.
If this solves the problem, please view your first post in this thread and click the Edit button (top right in the post) and add [Solved] in front of the subject.

You are 100% correct which has solved the problem for the one offending Calc sheet.
But why did it start by selecting the Microsoft XPS printer?
