I have a large document for which I have a sizable appendix cache, some items have multiple pages. I want to create an individual header for these pages that indicate which item this page belongs to. For example:
Appendix A
Inventory 1
Now, this item might span one or more pages. Then, the next item should also have its own header
Appendix A
Next Item
.. and so on.
The directions I'm reading where you continually create new styles doesn't seem to make sense, or at least I can't get it to work beyond the first page. I insert a manual break, but I end up getting stuck with the first header on subsequent pages.
Might there be an easier way to accomplish this simple requirement?

Re: How to create individual headers per page?
Broadly speaking, every time the page header or footer information changes other than when provided by an OpenOffice Field, one must use a different Page Style. If your headers can be related to information from built in Heading Styles (which you may modify to suit your design requirements) then these page headings can be automated from the Heading Styles used to define the document areas. See

for detailed information.

Re: How to create individual headers per page?
Similar to inserting a page number field (which is different on each page), you can use the same page style, with a field (or fields) that pull information from the page headings. Insert > Fields > Other > Document > Chapter will insert the current chapter title for a particular heading level (level 1, top, is typically the chapter title; level 2 would be the current level-two heading, and so on).

Re: How to create individual headers per page?
I decided to follow someone's advice and start over, using screen captures of the content I needed. I have a high-res display (Mac), which worked out fine - just insert the image. The problem is, I had to create individual files for each Appendix item, which was a royal PITA, because I couldn't get the line numbers to reset.
My next challenge will be to find a way to assemble all these *.odt appendix files (there are over 20) and number each page *except* the title page for each appendix (A, B, C ... ). Something tells me this won't be possible and I may end up doing some cut-and-paste of numbers, then scanning them in. I'm not sure if other word processors handle this differently, I haven't tried (ie: MS Word).

Re: [Solved] How to create individual headers per page?
To add to this discussion, I needed to create separate page count for the appendix. This presented a problem, per the above, as I already had page numbering ordered in the headers.
Here is my solution:
* Save the entire document into PDF
* Import into Adobe Acrobat DC (professional)
* Add a footer, with a page numbering header
* Save it
You can then re-export to *.doc, but my solution was to simply save the three sections I had into PDF, then us Adobe Acrobat DC to combine them, and WALLA, it was done.
This is a hack, but it really does work. That being said, I believe there should be a better facility for these scenarios in Writer. But that's just my opinion. I hope the above helps someone else who also gets stuck in this predicament.
