Thunderbird?

Afaik OOo 3.0 will have Thunderbird + Lightning included.

But I have two questions:

1. I really hope, that it will simply be the original/unmodified version (so that you get updates from Mozilla). I think so, but does anyone know anything about it?

2. Will OOo have special options to interact with Thunderbird?

Thanks for answers!

I did not read anywhere about this possibility. What was planned was to include an e-mail/calendar/contact product with OOo, but this is postponed, as far as I know. But nothing prevents you to have these two products on your computer!

No, but as Squenson says, just download them and add them to your machine. There are no special interactions planned for Thunderbird or Lightning that I have heard of.

Thunderbird and lightning are planned to be bundled with StarOffice9, and suggested as a companion download for OOo3.0.

From what I read on the OOo Marketing mailing list they are tossing around ideas like mutual download links on OOo/Mozilla. Take a look at this message (the whole thread is interesting) http://marketing.openoffice.org/servlet ... sgNo=26636

As for actual integration... well.. it's being worked on.

What does companion download mean?
That it has to be downloaded separately or that there will exist a special version of OOo 3 bundled with Thunderbird, which would be selectable in the installer?

Read the linked mail thread - it is the source for what I posted here (I have no inside information, I only know what has been discussed in the mailing lists). The mail thread states that there is a concept/idea to have a download link for Thunderbird and Lightning on OO.o, and vice versa for OOo on Mozilla.com. It also states that for OOo3, full integration and bundling is not planned.

So... go read that mail thread, and you will have a better understanding of what is planned for OOo3 and SO9, and the plan for beyond OO3.0... such as for the TB3 release in early 2009. This is all discussed there... maybe not in great detail, but enough to get a feel for where this is going.
