Stupid question: Whenever I update Open Office it requires me to reinstall the entire program, this causes several problems including errors with the previously installed version and setting which program opens what file type, etc. Is an update supposed to cause the whole program to Reinstall or is my computer just being weird? If the case is reinstallation is required wouldn't it make more sense just to have a patch and only reinstall for a big update?
Thanks for any help on this.

Re: Updater Must Reinstall?
For the moment, you have to reinstall the whole suite at each upgrade. But it will be implemented in the 3.# branch IIRC.

Thanks Hagar. By the way what does 3.# branch IIRC mean?

The 3.# branch is the next major version to be released (current is 2.4.1, next one will be 3.0.0).
IIRC stands for If I Remember Correctly. I tried to find a discussion about that here but no way. Perhaps it's mentioned on the wiki.
