[Solved] Default Paper and Margin Sizes

Post by HansAsperger »

I used to have DEFAULT paper size and margin size. Somehow, these have been changed. I wish to get back to the original default paper size and margin size. How can I accomplish these?

Welcome to the forum.

Search the forum with default or read [Tutorial] Creating a new default template

As a new poster you will find much useful information in the Writer FAQ, the Writer Tutorials, the up to date Writer guide and the OOo v3.3 Writer Manual. When a pop-up window opens, click the Help button for extensive help on that function.

If you or someone has changed the normal settings for Default Page Style, you can change these back. Use /Format /Styles and Formatting, press 4th icon from left; right click on Default and select Modify from the popup. Press the Page tab and change the page Format. This is Letter if for USA (and one or two other countries) and A4 in most of the rest of the world. The normal margin sizes for each are 2cm (0.80 inches). If necessary adjust these, then press the OK button. All future documents that use Default page style will then use these settings and paper size.

Changing the Default template will not change the existing documents what you will open in the future.
It will affect the newly created (empty) documents only.

For existing documents you will have to change the paper/margin settings for each individual document, as I described earlier.

I have been confused. I did these steps. Open Writer. Then a blank sheet appear. Then change the setting following the steps you described. Then I clicked "OK". This does not change for the next new document. What did I do wrongly?

You changed these settings for the current (blank) document. You need to Save this modified, blank file as the default template which Writer wil use on every fresh startup. In the second posting in this thread John_Ha has given the link to instructions on how to set a default template.
