[Solved] Spell check problems

Post by jmrathbun »

The above solution hasn't worked for me, though I have twice deleted the specified folder and restarted OO 4.1.3. No spellchecking happens in my documents. The autospellcheck icon is permanently "on" and can't be affected by mouse clicks. Manual spellchecking doesn't work, even on bizarre "words" like qwertyuiop[]. I would appreciate help getting my spellchecker back!

I'm inferring from this that qwertyuiop[] isn't being underlined which means that your document language is probably set to "None" and can't be spellchecked because Writer doesn't know which dictionary to use. In this case, you have to manually set your document language for each document.

Are all words underlined? Are no words underlined? Are some words underlined? Did you download and install the EN-US version of AOO? Is the English dictionary installed?

Please upload a sample document.

Hagar, the link you provided was very helpful... especially the part about "Beware of the tools/language menu." It appears the problem is resolved (for now). I wonder how it got this way after all these years of using OO.

Some sort of pop-up warning to the effect that I needed to re-select a default language would have been even more helpful. After executing all the steps required to assess and correct the problem, I wonder if there could be a mode for ordinary users that would require less technical sophistication; this one seems to suffer from too many options.
