[Solved] Pagination error report despite...
[Solved] Pagination error report despite...
Createspace is telling me there's a pagination error with my uploaded manuscript, despite the fact that I've checked page by page in both the Open Office and resulting PDFs, and every page is accounted for and numbered accurately.
I've formatted a dozen or more books for Createspace with no problem at all. As with the last issue I posted, this is working with two authors who worked on these documents in a .doc format and returned them. [The second author thought he had downloaded OO but says he's technologically challenged and now isn't quite sure what he worked on it in--but given the same issue, I'm guessing he was in .doc.]
The first author fixed the problem by manually entering page numbers, but now the chapters no longer start always on the right, as they should.
Any suggestions? I'm a bit at a loss as to how to fix a problem when my documents are showing that no problem exists.

Are there omitted blank pages?

Re: Pagination error report despite...
I'm once again scanning the document. I see the blank page, with the words BLANK PAGE everywhere they should be (left page when a chapter ended on the right. And all those pages are accounted for number wise.

Re: Pagination error report despite...
They may be in the main .odt file, but there is a setting in /Tools /Options OpenOffice /OpenOffice Writer : Print to "Print automatically inserted blank pages" If this is not set, such blank pages are omitted from the output PDF file. Check if they appear there or not; if they do not appear in the .pdf, place a checkmark against this setting and remake the .pdf.
| Edit: Also, in "Export as PDF" on General tab there is a checkbox for "Export automatically inserted blank pages". |

Found it, Rory. Thank you. I checked it and will remake the pdf and try again. Thank you!

It'll take up to 24 hours for them to check my files and see if this solved the problem.

In Adobe Reader /File /Properties will tell you the number of pages in the pdf file. I cannot say if this counts "omitted" blank pages.
This omission of "blank" pages is a nuisance to those who print out on a duplex printer preparatory to folding the sheets into signatures for sewn binding. I think it is there for those who print US Letter/A4 documents on older single sided printers, where the blank page has no purpose in the layout of a single sided document

Unfortunately, this didn't work, either. It's still telling me there's a pagination problem. I'll call createspace and see if they can tell me what the problem is.

Re: Pagination error report despite...
Createspace was not terribly helpful. They just kept insisting the document on my computer is wrong even as I'm telling them I see the page they say is missing.
On searching the PDF file resulting, it seems one of those pages is missing there, so apparently it's a problem in the export process. I re-inserted the page breaks for right page at the two places where it didn't work and found a setting to check 'export automatically inserted blank pages' and clicked that. It's now going to take time for the last file to be rejected and upload this one and then wait again, but we'll see if that's all it took to solve the problem.
If so I don't understand why it was only in those two places that the blank pages weren't accounted for. If it solves the problem, I'll be grateful, regardless, and hopefully it'll be of help to someone else.

Re: [SOLVED} Pagination error report despite...
So I got this solved with the help of someone at Createspace. The problem was fixed by using adobe acrobat instead of whatever PDF reader I had on my laptop, and then making sure adobe reader was looking at the pdf in single page mode rather than double page mode. Why this should make a difference in whether all the pages uploaded to createspace or not is beyond me...but it worked.
Nothing to do with open office, but in case anyone else is dealing with this issue, this is what helped me.
