When I open the tutorial file (prax-en.txt) there are strange characters in the file. I've been unable to resolve this and I'm hoping someone can help.

How you adjusted the import filter at opening the .txt file?

The file (downloaded from the link below) works fine for me with my default import filter parameters:
Character set: Eastern Europe (Windows-1250)
Default font: Times New Roman
Language: Hungarian.

(English - TXT)

Opened OK for me with Char set UK, Times New Roman and English-UK in Writer 4.1.2. Also OK in Mousepad (system plain text editor)

The only thing I could see, scanning through the file, that might cause any strangeness, was use of some non-breaking spaces.
Edit: I suggest mhkiegmann should try the download in PDF or in ODT formats. ODT is an archive with integral corruption checking; if the download is bad for some reason it will complain when you try to open it.

Should be UTF-8 actually, as selecting cp-1250 really produces strange characters such as:

Code: Select all

Paragraph Style “Text Body”

Thanks for the replies! It looks like the utf8 removes all the junk for me in the us.
