[Solved] No spell-checking in OOo Writer 3.0 beta 2

Which version of OpenOffice.org are you using? 3.0 beta 2
What Operating System (version) are you using? Linux Mint 5
What is your question or comment? Thought I'd better ask this here, because it *might* be a bug in 3.0 beta 2, but it might just be me doing something wrong, and I don't want to report it if it's me being an idiot!
I've been using OOo Writer 3.0 beta for some time with no problems. The other day it flagged up that a new beta was available, so I downloaded it and ran the update, after which the spell-checker wasn't working. I then thought I should probably download and install the GB language tools for beta 2 (since I'm in the UK), so I did that, and still no joy. If I go to Tools/Options/Language Settings/Writing Aids, the "Available Language Modules" box in blank, not even the US dictionaries available. I installed the language pack using sudo dpkg --install *debs and it seemed like everything installed OK, but its not working.
Anyone else have this problem or have I done something wrong? (Linux Mint 5 is an Ubuntu Hardy spinoff, if that's any help).
