[Solved] Cell contents increase when dragging

I have found references on how to drag and drop cell contents (the selection mechanism is different for me), but have not been able to figure out why the numbers get larger as I move from one cell to the next. Is there a setting that I need to change so that cell contents remain the same when dragged from 1 cell to the next?

Moving a cell by drag and drop should not change the contents of the cell.

What you describe sounds like you're not actually using drag and drop, but instead you're using a drag-fill, where one value is extended to fill a range of cells.

For drag-fill, only the cell border is highlighted black (the rest of the cell looks normal), and you click and drag the small black "handle" at the lower right corner of the cell.

For drag and drop, the whole cell, border and all, is black (the cell value is shown in white), then you click inside the black area (but not on the handle at the lower right) and drag the cell to another location.

Hold down the Ctrl key while dragging to keep the number from incrementing.

For other things that will increment see Tools > Options > Calc > Sort Lists where you can also create your own.

Another option is to put the same value into two consecutive cells then select them and drag through the rest.

Thanks for the help. Holding down the control key has solved my problem.
