[Solved] Grey space after word

Morning all
Sorry if this has been dealt with but I cannot find it. I'm not sure of how to describe it in the help section
When I type a combination of letters and numbers as a reference, eg 1 John 5:7, 8 I get a grey space showing after the 1 and after the comma.
I assume it's telling me that the spacing is incorrect. I want it to stay as I type it.
I've looked but cannot find the way to turn off this 'error report'?
Can you assist me please?

These grey spaces are non-breaking spaces and suggest you pasted the reference rather than typed it as they often are used on HTML pages. They do not print and their display can be turned off by toggling /View /field shadings. If you are in fact typing them, you may be using the key combination Ctrl Shift Space or /Insert /Formatting character /non-breaking space. If pasting them, you can stop them transferring by /Edit /Paste special and selecting "unformatted text" from the popup.

Note that such non-breaking spacing can be useful to prevent inappropriate breaks at the end of lines. In the cited case 1 John 5:7, 8 one might not wish that broken at line-end as it easily becomes less intelligible if that happens.

They often come with text copied from emails. If you want to get rid of them

1 Copy one of them
2 Edit > Find and Replace - the Find field is pre-filled with the non-breaking space you copied
3 Type a normal space in the Replace field
3 Click Replace All
