OOo Spellchecker doesn't work

Welcome beginner. Please answer all of the questions below which may provide information necessary to answer your question.

Which version of OpenOffice.org are you using? OOo ver.2.4.1
What Operating System (version) are you using? XP
What is your question or comment? Spellchecker does not work.

I have followed the instructions for this problem on the OpenOffice.org website, but I cannot get the spellcheck to work for more than 1 paragraph. It will not operate automatically when I open a new document. The manual spellchecker will not find any mispelled words when run.

OOo's spellchecker was running fine with ver.2.4, but since the upgrade to 2.4.1 it has not worked properly. I have had this problem with other versions of Ooo. I think it may be because of my language settings. I have some set to US English and some to Canadian English.

I have tried reinstalling OOo 2.4.1 with no success.
