I'm considering switching to Linux and OpenOffice. I use Word2003 now and my primary concern is that I do a LOT of customizing of the toobar to put the things *I* used most on a one-click basis. It only takes one thing that I use 20 times a day to have to click 2 or 3 times to reach as opposed to putting a button on the toolbar. This is a critical make-it or break-it for me. Can I do this with OpenOffice?
SORT OF SOLVED -
I still can't find anyway to use the wasted space on the menu bar for a short toobar (you can do this in word). And I can't find any way to put a function I use frequently from down inside a menu (except for "TEMPLATE") as a button or a separate top-level menu item. The buttons are not draggable and I'm still finding this hard to work with. I did find a way to use the little blue smiley and star as access to buttons that I actually use instead of what was in them to start with - which is nice. Wish I could make new ones like that. I will never put anything MS beyond XP SP2 on my PC so I feel pretty sure Linux is in my future. I'm just trying to see how I can get along with Word, Quicken, and a couple of other apps. Wish these vendors would write for Linux - I don't mind paying for good software, as long as it doesn't try to play big brother and build in it's own obsolescence on purpose.

Note that the OOo user profile containing your configuration and customization is also cross-platform. You can copy it from a GNU/Linux system to a Windows system, you'll retrieve all your customized toolbars, shortcuts, ...
