with v2.2 i could open a html doc and under the view options i could view html source but now with this latest version this option has been removed and i am left with view print layout or view web layout

just upgraded from v2.2 to v 2.3.1 but i think i will have to go back to the old version unless i find out how to restore a function

That's a known problem. Workaround: open the file from OOo (File -> Open or from the toolbar); don't double click on it in Windows Explorer to open it.
