In my database file I cannot create a form with the wizard as it says JRE runtime is not correct[see attached ]. I have installed the latest version of Java on my computer, and it is showing in Tools/Options/openoffice/Java [ see attached file]
Can you please assist.

Did you try rebooting your computer after installing the latest version of Java?
While the instructions on the Java website only indicate a restart of the browser is required, I found that I had to restart my system in order for it to work with a number of other programs.

Yes I have rebooted the computer after the installation.
The Java files are on the C: drive, I have installed Open Office on D: drive. The main hard drive has been partitioned - is this something to do with the problem.

I honestly don't know if the partitioning is a factor or not. I know that my installation of OO is on my E drive (D is my Blu-ray), and Windows is installed on my C drive, but in my case they are two physically separate drives, rather than just being separated by partitioning software.

On any Windows at present OpenOffice is a 32 bit application, no matter what the bitness of Windows is. It needs a 32 bit Java, which must be installed and selected for OpenOffice (/Tools /Options /OpenOffice /Java). This 32 bit Java can run alongside the 64 bit Java 64 bit windows versions will install.
One needs to search the Java site for archive versions of Java. 32 bit versions will have 586 in their filename.

I have downloaded and installed 32 bit version, checked that it is selected in Tools/options/openoffice/java and rebooted the computer, but I am still getting the error message "open office requires a JRE environment to perform etc etc"
the file I downloaded and run was 'jre_8u31_windows.i586.exe" I assume this is the correct file.
Have I missed a step.

It is possible that OpenOffice for windows requires an earlier version of Java (I don't use Windows much, so can't say for certain). Have you rebooted your computer since installing the Java 8 version? If not, please do. If you have and Java doesn't work, I'd advise using Java 7. My windows machine is running XP (32 bit) and is working OK on Java 1.7.0.45 (32 bit).

I got the same error message in OO Base when accessing a table by selecting Tables in the Database field
and the actual table in the Forms field in the GUI. I'm running OO 4.1.1 on Windows 7 and had manually installed Java 8.31 (32 bit) from
https://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp. I finally ended up with also installing Java version 7.75 (32 bit). After this my OpenOffice Base is working again.

@hape & @Lesley:
Java version 1.8 DOES work with AO/LO on Win7 but needs to be 'tweaked'.
IIRC several months ago I updated a file (I can't think which one now)
to make AOO/LO recognise Java v 1.8.
I have not had any problems with it and am currently running Java 1.8_31 with AOO v3.4.1 on Win7.
If you are competent enough can you tell me which version of msvcr*.dll resides in your
C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org *\program folder <-- 32bit OS
or
C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenOffice.org *\program folder <-- 64bit OS
