OOo 3.0 Beta crashing- memory overflow?
Hello,
first off the environment / conditions:
-WinXp Prof SP3, 4GB RAM, AMD X2 5200+
-11 tables, 1 with about 500 filles cells, the other 10 with each about 10.000 lines á 11 rows which from 3 contain formulas
(11 pages, 770783 cells on 3876 pages) (ods file is 11.7MB in size)
-additional 3 of the 11 rows have a conditional formating
When opening the 11.7MB file it expands to 1GB in the memory.
While/by sorting the date the memory usage expands by about 100MB for each table till Office crashes when reaching 1.7-2GB.
Anyone got an idea or even a solution for this problem?
Thanks,
Mav

Re: wrong topic-plz move troubleshooting |OOo 3.0 Beta crashing
I suggest that you first try opening and sorting the file under a stable version of OOo Calc, the latest one being OOo 2.4.1. If the results are OK, you can certainly help the development team of OOo 3.0 to fix this issue by preparing a file of the same size and complexity without confidential data, and opening a bug in the QA system. Many people in this forum can help you for this step. You could post your file on a free file sharing platform like http://www.mediafire.com and we will do the rest!
This may take a little bit of your time, but this is Open Source concept: you get a free software, free help in this forum and you invest some of your free time to help improving it and making it better.

I did not do it myselfe but a friend of mine had OpenOffice 2.4.1 installed and got the same issue with the same file ( sent it to him)
And luckily the data in that sheet are at no way confidential.
And I'm aware that a Database would probably do fine too but i wanted it as a spreadsheet.
Thought due to remodelling the sheet i managed to reduce the RAM use to barely below the crashing limit and am able to sort it once before i have to save and reload for more sorting
I will ad the file when its finally verified. Taking to long for now
