How to search the contents of ODT files on a Mac?

I can search file NAMES perfectly well, but I need to search for text inside the ODT files. I was able to do this with my windows search, but I'm new to MAC and cannot figure out how to make FINDER or SPOTLIGHT search inside ODT files. The mac searches find words inside TXT files no problem.
Thanks for your help.

OpenOffice native format files are compressed (ZIP) archives. You need to tell your search utility that this is so to allow it search within the odt files. I cannot say how to do this on a Mac.

Hello Charlie - the link you posted is broken. I'm also trying how to figure out how I can search by text and have ODT files referenced (after updating to OSX Yosemite). Currently I see no way to do so.
Thanks.

Open Finder
Go to the folder you want to search
Click on File/Find (command/F)
In the drop down menu select contents, then enter what you want to search for in the "contains" window.
