[Solved] PPTX Openning Incorrectly in OpenOffice

Post by Picks »

A PPTX created presentation does not seem to be displaying correctly in the OpenOffice Impress application. The fonts seems to change and thinner, as well as some screen positioning of the text seem to shift and change location.
We also tried to do a "Save as" to PPT format ... and OO did not display that correctly.
We also tried to do a "Save as" to the OO format (.ODP)... and OO did not display that correctly either.

Any plans that you see to support the PPTX format files in OO ?
Any addons that you know that can be used to make this work ?

Thanks,

In any case it helps if you have the same fornts installed that had been used on the creating machine.

Hi Villeroy,

Please advise what the links are for ? Are they utilities that would facilitate a correct display of the PPTX file inside Open Office ?

Thanks,

The 2 Microsoft links let you download a power point viewer from the one and only software vendor which can open pptx files properly.
zamzar is an online converter for documents. Quite often it does a better job than OpenOffice, sometimes it's the other way round.
LibreOffice is an alternative to OpenOffice.
Oh, I forgot http://www.softmaker.com/english/of_en.htm which is built entirely around MS Office document formats (without supporting each and every feature of course).
Neither OpenOffice nor anything of the above can sustitute MS Office if you need to work with MS Office documents.

The first 2 links from Microsoft, do not seem to take you to a correct location. The powerpoint that generates the PPTX is powerPoint 2013.
in any case, we only need the "Viewer" capability and not the design. Any viewing that you know that is built on the Microsoft platform libraries that would be 100% compatible with designs made on PowerPoint 2013 ?

Ready wish that openOffice would have such "viewer" that would be fully compatible ...

Thanks,

The viewer from the first link together with the compatibility pack from the second link lets me view OOXML presentations (*.pptx) under any Windows system and Linux/Wine

Thank you for your help and clarifications. I will try those 2 Microsoft viewer links.

In case you come back, I had a very similar symptom and a question about this compatibility issue.
