Hello, to everybody on this site. I just re-downloaded Open Office and am having issues with my HP J4550 printer not printing after using Open Office to open any of my doc files.
I had another type of office software previously ( can't remember name) and after an unwanted player somehow got in my desktop, I had to do a System Restore to get rid of the bug, and there went the software. Didn't like it much so was not too terribly disappointed. I had no need to use word software until recently and Open Office was so highly recommended ( and free,!) I downloaded it. First file I tried to print, and paper came out blank,,,!!! tried numerous times and still no go. Went to control panel and everything seemed to be OK in printers and hardware, but I am no Guru by no means. After mentioning this to a friend, she stated she had same issue before and had uninstalled Open Office and re-installed and printer started working. Well, mine is NOT so here I am lookin for some kind words of wisdom.
Can anybody help, and many thanks for some help ????

Suggest you go to hp.com website and go to Trouble Shooting Guide for Laptops, Printers and More.
Just fixed my own similar problem in this way.
Good luck

Hey Mellangoose,,,I went to HP.com and looked thru several links for trouble shooting and did not find anything that referred to Openoffice issues. Finally left a message to the manager of HP support,,,who knows, maybe he'll answer,,,??
I even typed a new doc and tried to print but paper still comes out blank.
Where did you find the methods to resolve your issue,,,??

Try this:
Tools-->Options-->Load/Save-->General uncheck "Load printer settings with document."

Has the printer worked at all since the System Restore?

Did you run self-tests on the printer?

Hi, I have the same issue... Windows 7 Pro 64 bit (fresh install), HP printer (DeskJet 2545) works from all applications BUT Open Office 4.1.1...
I did try to install OO 4.1.0 and 4.0.1 but all have the same issue...

OO Print dialog simply disappears with no errors...

Having print queue opened - I see the document just for a short moment with Spooling status, that it disappears but printer is not printing...

in the same time I can print from Chrome, Adobe PDF Reader... and other apps.

PS. The only other thing which does NOT print is the standard Windows' Printer Test page... with exactly same symptoms - showing in the queue just for a fraction of a second with spooling status but not printing and returning an error message.

It is worth reinstalling the printer - this often works; perhaps something to do with the internal ordering of the driver layers, I'm not certain. At the same time as reinstalling the printer it is worth checking that you have (and are installing) the latest manufacturer's drivers for that printer.

Thanks... I did it already hundred times probably...

The operating system is freshly restored from the factory recovery disc...

I tried disabling firewall, removing MS Security Essentials, restoring print system to "factory", newest HP drives, "default" MS drivers, nothing works...

What's also interesting, I have a second Laptop at home, also with Windows 7 and no issues on this one... both are now setup to use a plain MS printer driver from Windows Update...

Are the two Windows 7 editions the same? Might one be 32 bit and the other 64 bit? In the interest of debugging this problem, which occurs from time to time, It would be good to have copies of each Windows Registry which I would pass to those writing the code.

Hi,
those are both 64bit editions... however not the same...

the one which doesn't work is a Lenovo X200 restored to factory state using the recovery media... than have Service Pack 1 and all Windows Update as well as Lenovo updates installed + MS Security Essentials... All used to work before the recovery on , but I have changed the hard drive so needed to reinstall the system.

the one which works is Lenovo X230 but is having a version of Windows 7 provided by my company (hence can't make a copy of the registry).

I will try to make the System Recovery on x200 once more... and will see if printing will work on a clean system...

Are there small print version numbers? I'm years away from Windows now, so have forgotten if there are such details.

Hello

When I update to opensuse 13.2 and also to LibreOffice 4.3.4 I did get also a problem with the printer(HP 6122). It was not clear what kind of problem it was. Some times it was good and other times wrong. I could print a good test page from the Installation manger.

Problem description.
The problem I could print text in portrait. When I want print a text in landscape then it does not worked. Before the printer did organized it for me. The paper was portrait and I could print a page in landscape.

I think the problem is only for OpenOffice and not for the complete system.
I could solve the problem when I did choose in the printer settings for: automatic post script driver from driver.
It is on the tabpage for device

Maybe this can also be done in the options. But there can be a different between OpenOffice and LibreOffice.

menu -- tools --> options

In the popup
expand OpenOffice / libreoffice
select print and then uncheck PDF as standard Print job format.
