Associated eMail program for webmail

I just started using OpenOffice and would like to be able to send text documents by email using Google email. I keep getting a message saying there is no eMail associated with OpenOffice. How do I go about fixing this so I can send OpenOffice text docs with Google email?
Thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum!

I fear that this feature is not compatible with any webmail at all.

Install a mail client.
Make it your systems default mail client.
Point it to your gmail account.

menu:File>Send... will mail documents using gmail and your mail client.
Hyperlinks starting with mailto: will use the same setup.

Thanks for the reply, but I'm afraid you are assuming a higher level of experience than I have. In Detail:
What is a mail client and how do I install it?
How do I make it my system default mail client?
How do I point it to my gmail account?
Don't really understand last statements either.

Install Thunderbird for example, a mail client is the application install on your machine (meaning: it can work offline). Then in the wizard, select the IMAP protocol. Thunderbird will take care of the configuration. You'll only have to provide your password at first mail check.
In Windows, you should be able to set Thunderbird as your default mail client.
