Welcome beginner. Please answer all of the questions below which may provide information necessary to answer your question.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Which version of OpenOffice.org are you using? Whichever one automatically downloaded on your site on june 22, 2008
What Operating System (version) are you using? Windows xp
What is your question or comment? I want to insert a picture into a new document I'm creating. I clicked on "Insert" and clicked on "Picture" and clicked on the "From file" icon, but the possible places from which to get the pictures do not include "My Pictures", which happens to house all my pictures. Is it really necessary to move a picture to Desktop or My Documents in order to be able to access it for incorporation into an OpenOffice document?

Re: Why is the obvious excluded as a possibility?

If you open My Documents you will find MY Pictures. That should solve your problem. Nothing is excluded. :D

Please use a meaningful title for posts.

The dialogue that you get when you click on insert picture from file is provided by Windows, unless you use the OpenOffice.org dialogues (Tools, Options, OpenOffice.org, General).

See if there is a Windows setting to change it. Other applications I use show the same dialogue.

OpenOffice remembers the last used folder, so it should not be a problem.
