[Solved] Microsoft Word no longer appears in New file menu

Hi there! I recently installed the OpenOffice update, and am now using 4.1.0, on Windows 7. However, I only use OpenOffice for certain purposes, and Microsoft Word is my standard wordprocessor. But now when I try to start a New file, the menu does not show MS Word anymore. This is most frustrating. Is there a fix, or is there a way to uninstall the update? Really hope you can help!

What menu does not show MS Word? Have you tried repairing MS Word?

Hi Bill, the menu is the one that comes up on my toolbar under File > New. (Thanks!) I don't think there is anything wrong with MS Word (?) and when I looked up my default programmes, I found it is still listed. I can still access MS Office from my Start bar, but this is not what I am used to, and seems clunky!

If you mean File > New in the OpenOffice menubar, it should never show MS Word. It should only show OpenOffice. That hasn't changed with the latest update.

Perhaps this is what the OP is looking for:
Adding items to the New menu

I'd forgotten about that. If that's the case, then repairing MS Word should restore it to the New menu. I don't think uninstalling AOO would help.
New Word Document” missing from right-click context menu?
Word doc missing from drop down menu

Thank you so much, Bill and FJCC - yes, it was the right-click context menu I was talking about! But I'm sorry to say that I have already gone and uninstalled OpenOffice - and it seems to have solved the problem. Maybe I'll download it again another time. (Great user support, for one thing!)
