I have Win 7 & am using OpenOffice 4.0.1
I want to move tables created in Microsoft Access (Office XP) to Base. I use the tables of data to store membership records and need to keep up with membership start & end dates mostly. (I have many queries in my original file and I understand I cannot move those & will have to re-create those.)
I figured out how to connect with my MS Office XP Access file and how to create a new OO Base database to view it in. Then I created a new blank OO Base database so I can move the tables over to it so I can then edit the data rather than just read it.
I have been able to move most of the tables BUT there are 3 tables that contain the most important information that I want to move but every time s I try - I keep getting error messages. Mostly it is this one: SQL Status 22001 Error Code -124 Value too long in statement...
I have tried repeatedly to move one table in particular, without success. I have edited the table in Access to make all fields text (even those with dates in it). (That helped me to be able to move other tables) When setting up the table to move, I have changed the default value of 50 characters to correspond to the values in my Access table (in the Access table all rows are 50 characters or less except for 3 columns which have 100) but it still wont transfer completely. My table has 243 rows with 24 columns and the most I can get to transfer over is about 40 rows. Can someone PLEASE offer assistance? I am NOT a programmer - just an average user. If I could figure out which column was causing the problem that would make it so much easier but I can't and I am frazzled.
Thanks

Re: SQL Error when moving MS Access Table to BASE
Easiest way is to export it from Access to Excel and open it in Calc then Select the data and just copy it.
In Base place your mouse in the Tables section and right click the mouse and paste it, it will open a menu.
