[Solved] Showing changes with a different color

Post by Gillie7 »

I am a new user of Open Office, editing a document for someone else. I have selected both 'show changes' and 'record changes'. This works very well except for one thing. My corrections show up in an insipid pale orange, which I find very difficult to read. I have searched in vain for a way to change this colour to a more clearly read colour such as a bright red or blue?. Is there currently a way to change the font colour for an editor? If not, could there be one introduced, please?

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Have you tried Tool>Options>Writer>Changes?

Please add [Solved] at the beginning of the title in your first post (top of the topic) with the edit button if your issue has been fixed.

I see that according to the above that one can change the color of changes, but it sets ALL changes to that color. Is there a way to set a different color for the changes made by each contributor to a document? This would be very nice as I've seen this in other programs (like Celtx.)

Thank you,
Henry

To enable that, each contributor must be identifiable. Many users do not enter user info when installing the suite. The contributors who skipped that step will all be seen as "the anonymous contributor", and changes from them will be the same color.

See Tools - Options - OpenOffice - User info

With that, you can even enter changes on other people's behalf, if they do not have direct access to the document. Just enter their name in the User Info dialog and then insert their contribution.

/Format /Character /Font Effects Tab , change colour using the Font Colour dropdown. But better to modify this in the Paragraph style or character style in use.

I want to change the default font for tracked changes (from the current pale orange to a bright and printable red or blue), but I see no way of doing so.

I see that someone else posted with the problem in 2014, and she was told to try Tools>Options>Writer>Changes. I got as far as Tools>Options>OpenOffice Writer, but I see no mention of Changes. And clicking OpenOffice Writer doesn't appear to go anywhere useful. Thanks for any suggestions.

Don't you see that?

Try to reset your OpenOffice user profile.
But you may need to reinstall or repair. It's rather weird not to see the Writer menu in the options.

One only sees Writer in the options if Options is opened from Writer itself; this applies across the board for the specific options of each application.

[solved] Thanks. Turns out that what I didn't know to do after choosing Tools>Options>OpenOffice Writer is click on the little plus sign left of OpenOffice Writer. That makes the useful menu drop down. And now everything's fine.
