Network Share Problem

I have multiple PCs running Windows XP networked through a workgroup.
The problem I am having is opening openoffice files directly from my file servers shared folder. All security and permission settings have been set to allow all users to modify the files stored there.
The only way I can access these files is by copying the file from the server and then open it directly from the PC I am accessing the network from. I should be able to click on the file directly from the server and then work on it.
Any Ideas would be appreciated.
