[Issue] 2.4.1 installs old version of Java

Post by neil »

Hi there
I know there is a version of the install that does not have the JRE in it but why does the one with JRE have an old version of it?
The current version is at least version 6 update 5 but 2.4.1 installs update 4.
Is there a known problem with update 5 or some other good reason why update 4 is included?
(I just remove update 4 and use update 5 with no problems)
Neil

Thanks

I can accept that the OOo install can't do much about the fact that the Java install doesn't have the ability to check for a newer version that is already installed but they have known at least since 2.4.0 that update 5 is available so why wasn't that packaged with 2.4.1?

And BTW issue 87600 (and other duplicate issues) is closed which would indicate that the developers think that the issue is satisfactorily dealt with. I hardly think this is the case

It's really a pity this again hasn't been addressed in the 2.4.1 installer! :x

We have had discussions about this, see here and here.

Issue 86722 states that it would be solved by the "Java guys". But apparently, it hasn't.
As this issue is closed as well, I would suggest that we open a new issue.

No surprise: they closed it 90603. ;) But the comments are interesting. I infer it's up to the Java team to build an installer that does not downgrade the JRE.

OK, let's see what is going to happen in 3.0. :?
In case we go on bugging them, maybe at some point the Java team will react.
