[Solved] Is there a server problem?

In the last couple of days I've tried posting here and keep getting an error message from the server saying that there are too many connections. And now the response time is very slow.

Do you know if this is a temporary problem?

The same problem occured when this forum was moved from Sun to Apache infrastructure and two of our most valued forum founders retired from administration. Basically, it is a lack of fine tuning between the requirements and resources which leads to rejected connections when more than 100(?) persons query this forum's database. Since we had a major upgrade of AOO, public interest is higher than usual. May be some evil hackers are involved. Who knows?

We regularly ask the dev team if they can do something about that. I hope that with the needs related to version 4 the matter will be taken more seriously.

I also had trouble "connecting/viewing" the forum yesterday.

The returned message was a mySQL error. Can't remember the error number.

Now back up and working..

I continue to see this problem daily especially in the morning here on the east coast of the US.

Jan Iversen made some changes on the forum configuration (and will make others on the next days) so it should work better now.

Today is much better than the previous week. No error messages about the number of connections.

I think (hope) repair tweaks are under way. It may take a few days, but Jan is on the job.

I understand that there may be need for more memory, so pending this (and other fixes) the situation may remain unstable but hopefully better than it has been.

On the next weeks there will be updates on the OS installed on the virtual machine running the forum, on mysql software and other things. There will be downtimes to implement all those changes, but afterwards the forum will work a lot better.

When we know of probable downtimes we will advise of these by a sticky posting on the Forum. Everyone on the Forum/Apache staff is anxious that the upgrades RGB spoke of be in place and bedded in by the start of the academic year, which usually sees a spike in Forum traffic.

Unfortunately for the OpenOffice systems, Jan may not be continuing the excellent work that he started.
I thank him for the obvious improvements that were completed for the systems. :super: :bravo:
And I agree with his proposals for future work.

Yes, a very sad news. See: http://www.mail-archive.com/dev@openoff ... 12312.html
It's the second time someone throws in the towel after working with the ASF team.

Please, re-read the whole thread: Jan is not complaining about ASF team, he do not have problems with INFRA as Terry had so this is a completely different situation.

No he did not. One of the things he was working on was attempting to get consensus to implement INFRA-style administration to OpenOffice systems.

Oops, sorry. That's not a good news if the project has no resources to get organized.
