I have carefully put together a custom toolbar with all the buttons I need. However I don't seem to be able to stop the Standard toolbar from popping up automatically, for example when I past a graphic. This displaces the formatting toolbar. When I then place my cursor in text, the standard toolbar disappears and the formatting toolbar re-appears. This is driving me to distraction. Can I prevent this from happening so that I just have the toolbars I've decided I want, rather than what someone else thought I might want?

Well yes but that just closes the tool bar. It doesn't stop it popping up again next time. I'm using OpenOffice 2.3.0 in case that's germane to the question.

The Standard toolbar is not supposed to be a context-sensitive toolbar. On my system (OOo 2.3.1 on Windows ME), I have to save, close and reopen the document after turning off the Standard toolbar to stop it from reappearing.

Unfortunately, when a toolbar is docked, there's no easy way to find out which toolbar it is--so it's very easy to get mixed-up when configuring them. You can undock it and check it's title, then re-dock it; that's about the only thing I know of to do.

For kicks, I just tried de-activating all the toolbars, and they all shut off as requested, as long as I used the View > Toolbars menu while the toolbar's context was active (if it is context-sensitive).

The only toolbar that I had any trouble with is the Form Controls toolbar. That one seems to have a different set of rules that I don't understand.

I've followed the Bhikkhu Pesala's instructions and it does work for me (I just tried with the tables and pictures toolbars). Even if I close completely OOo, the next time I open a document with a table and put my cursor inside, I don't get the toolbar. Using OOo 2.3.1 on Ubuntu. Could try on a W2k system if needed but I'm pretty sure the result will be the same.

BTW, I guess that by Standard you mean :
- either the standard toolbar related to the context, i.e. the context toolbar in fact
- or the Standard toolbar is pushed by the context toolbar.

Did you try this with the Standard or the Formatting toolbar instead of the Table and Picture toolbar? Context-sensitive toolbars don't reappear after they have been closed. The Standard and Formatting toolbars do reappear when inserting a picture, table, frame, etc. or when opening a new document or a new window.

After scanning the forum, I indeed found the bug described here : Re: Disable automatic toolbar show-up.

I confirm, same behavior on my Ubuntu box. The standard toolbar seems to disappear only at third time the user unchecks it.
