Wow! I made it. I have 2 quick and easy questions. Number one is, now that I have the download done, how do I start it?
Second question is, how do I make a desktop shortcut for this program. I've tried every option. Sure could use your help.

Once you have downloaded the software, you have to install it. I guess you are using Windows, as most Linux distribution have OOo pre-installed. The simplest way is to open My Computer, find the file you just downloaded and double-click on it, then follow the instructions. To create a shortcut, go to C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 2.4\program, find scalc.exe, right-click on it and select the option "Create Shortcut". Repeat with swriter.exe, sdraw.exe, simpress.exe and sbase.exe.

Hey squenson, I just moved this post and was composing a reply when you beat me to it :-)

The Survival Guide for the forum gives basic guidance on how to look for answers, and how to frame you questions to help us to help you.

Downloading OOo puts an install kit for OOo on your hard drive in your download default directory (usually My Documents or the Desktop) with mouthful of a title
OOo_2.4.0_Win32Intel_install_wJRE_en-US.exe or similar. You need to click on this an account where you have install privileges (and if you are using a home PC your default account will have these privileges, if you are using XP or Vista). This will run the install and place shortcuts in the usual places.

By your second part of your question, it seems you installed OpenOffice.org already. If by "download" you mean "installed," here is a guide to starting Openoffice.org.

But the Desktop is an usual place for many Windows users and OOo doesn't create the shortcuts here. So you've to open the Start menu, expand the OpenOffice 2.4 shortcuts folder and right click on a shortcut then, drag it to the desktop.
