Find a person in your real environment who is able to explain drives, directories, (downloaded) files, links, (compressed) archives on your computer. You will need this basic knowlege for anything else.

Two print-versions of the official setup guide (A4 and US letter)
http://documentation.openoffice.org/set ... IDE_A4.pdf
http://documentation.openoffice.org/set ... _GUIDE.pdf

Click the Windows chapter in the table of contents (in case your are using WIndows).

In case you need further help, please read this forum's survival guide. In particular subject "HELP!!!" does not help to get any answer at all. Then you should be able to tell us which operating system you are using (e.g. Windows XP or something) and the name of the downloaded file you can not handle (could be the wrong one).
Please, edit this topic's initial post and add "[Solved]" to the subject line if your problem has been solved.

Also try the guide to starting OpenOffice.org and keeping in mind that by "word" you want a "word processor" which is called "Writer" in OpenOffice.org.

Does it help: [Solved] Don't understand installation and [Issue] No desktop inclusion?

Thanks to add '[Solved]' at beginning of your first post title (edit button) if your issue has been fixed.
