First Time User - apps not launching

Hello-

I downloaded the latest OO.org package and installed yesterday. It seemed to run to completion successfully as I had to select whether or not I wanted OO to be my default for "office" type files. I selected "no" as I just want to try it out and a friend of mine sent me a Write document that I can't open otherwise.

Well, in short, the apps, none of them, will run. The icons are in my start menu. The doc my friend sent has an OO write icon next to it indicating the file associations are in place, but nothing launches.

Please advise.

Reinstalling did the trick!!! Does that make me an OOO DIYer?!
