Trying to start Calc starts Writer instead

I have an old PC, and cannot afford a new one.
It is a P-III, with 256 MB ram.
I can load and use Ubuntu 7.04, which includes OO 2.2.
When I start Calc, Writer starts instead.
I installed it once a few years ago, and was able to do a fix for this issue.
However, I cannot locate the fix now.
Newbie!!!
Thanks.

You get Writer when you open a text with the soffice program.
You get Calc when you open a spreadsheet file with the same program.
Everything is loaded by the very same program /usr/bin/soffice
When you start the program without any file you get a blank grey window with a menu to open any type of file.

Thanks for the reply.
My problem is that when I go to the applications menu and choose calc, writer starts instead.
If I select writer, it starts OK.

Can you post a short sample file, which should open with Calc, but instead opens with Writer?

As I understand, the problem is not with launching the application by double-click but with the desktop manager menu, Gnome I guess.

Perhaps the .desktop configuration files have been damaged. You should check them in the /usr/share/applications folder (use sudo gedit scalc.desktop for example). Or the swriter entry, perhaps it got a wrong icon.

Else, remove OOo and install from the deb packages. You may use the legacy version (see the download page, there is a link bottom right of this page).
