[Solved] Spell Check Crashes OpenOffice

Post by tromply »

I've had this problem for a while and after going through these forums, I don't seems to see the same problem I am having. So, hopefully, someone can help me!
I speak both Spanish and English. I wanted to have both languages able to be spell checked. I noticed that in the version of OOo that I had, it only had an English spell check. I went to the extensions site for OOo and found a EuroOffice add on with a free Spanish dictionary. I tried to install it, but it wasn't what I had hoped for. Well, I then tried to take it off, first by uninstalling the EuroOffice thing, then by going into the extentions manager and removing it. Since then, I have updated my OOo to the latest OxygenOffice, but I still have a reoccurring problem. That is, each time I open OOo, I get an error that says,
"Error loading BASIC of: (then shows a large file address, which I cannot find, leading to the now deleted EuroOffice dictionary)
General error
General input/output error"
I can hit "ok" then start typing, but everytime I want to use spellcheck, OOo and my computer crashes.
Somebody please help!

Yes, that extension causes a lot of troubles, especially at upgrade. Just rename your OOo user profile (\Documents and settings\<user>\Application data\OpenOffice.org2 under Windows).

To install dictionaries, see here: [Tutorial] Spell check and Language configuration.

Thanks to add '[Solved]' at beginning of your first post title (edit button) if your issue has been fixed.
LibreOffice 25.2 on Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE 7 Gigi) and 24.8 portable on Windows 11.
