[Issue] Writer always adds a footer at .doc export
[Issue] Writer always adds a footer at .doc export
Whenever I add a header to my pages, writer automatically adds a footer. I turn off footers, and save, but when I re-open the file, the footer is back. How can I get rid of footers permanently?

Re: Writer always adds a footer
Hi and welcome to the forum!
Do you save in native format (ODF, i.e. .odt) or in external format like .doc?
Can you upload a sample file (see How to attach a document here)?

I save in a ".doc" format.
Here is an example file.

Re: Writer always adds a footer
Intrusive and unreliable footers are reported in .doc files saved/used in OpenOffice. The format filters have been reverse engineered, so awkwardness are likely. At present I know of no fix .

Re: Writer always adds a footer
Ah, indeed, I can reproduce it with AOO 3.4.1 on Ubuntu 12.10.
It has been reported already: Bug 119970 - export to .doc file automatically inserts footer.
If you want to work with AOO, better stock to the native format (ODF).
The .doc import/export filters were reverse engineered, hence some flaws! That's the vendor lock-in policy.

Re: [Issue] Writer always adds a footer at .doc export
Thanks for your help! I was somehow able to fix the issue while still using a .doc file, by switching the file type from MSWord 97-2 to MSWord 6.

If I remember correctly, some of the early Word formats can cause problems if more modern font structures are used with them, giving interspersed little boxes for fonts supplying more than 256 characters.
