[Solved] How to add template on Business Cards
[Solved] How to add template on Business Cards
Hi folks,
Ubuntu 7.10 desktop amd64
OpenOffice 2.3
I find it is quite easy creating Busines Cards on Writer. But there are only 5 templates for selection. Where can I find additional templates and how to add them there? TIA
Besides is there any way to import graphics on cards?

Re: How to add template on Business Cards
Create your template, you can base it on an existing Business Card template. Add whatever you like, graphics etc.
To save it: go to File > Templates > Save
The Templates dialog opens.
Give your template a name, and click the My Templates option in the categories list window. Click OK.
To use your new template you would go to File > New > Templates and Documents
The Templates and Documents Dialog opens.
Click on Templates inthe sidebar, then double click on My Templates in the Title list.
For more info, see chapter 10 in the Writer User Guide.

Having spent hours on googling and reading documents I fail to find a solution to my simple question.
On OO Writer
File -> New --> Business Card
starting the "Business Cards" windows. On "Business Cards" tag selecting "Business Cards, Work (3-1/2 x 2)" 5 templates displayed. Highlighling "Elegan, with Name, without Slogan" I found the template which I prefer. But I don't need the lines across the template. I have no idea how to delete them.
Besides how can I add more templates there and where can I find available templates which can be imported to OO Writer. I don't expect creating my own template. There are many templates available on Internet. I can't solve how to import them there.
Can you help? TIA

Re: How to add template on Business Cards
I don't think you can import them there. They'll go into the 'My Templates' folder as described earlier.
(You don't have to start with an existing template, i just thought it would be easier for you.)
These links should help:

I have a namecard template download on worldlabel.com already. I played around it on OOWriter. The disadvantage is without "Synchronize" feature. I have to edit each card individually to make a change.

To create your template, start with you downloaded format that you like.
To save it: go to File > Templates > Save
The Templates dialog opens.
Give your template a name, and click the My Templates option in the categories list window. Click OK.
To use your new template you would go to File > New > Templates and Documents

I did all steps as advised previously.TheGurkha wrote:To create your template, start with you downloaded format that you like.

Click on Templates inthe sidebar, then double click on My Templates in the Title list.
Then I manually created one name card. Copy/paste the same to the rest empty cards.
What I can't figure out is to make a change on one card I have to do the rest manually. There is no "Synchronize" feature/function as using the built-in business card template.

Re: How to add template on Business Cards
Go to File > New > Templates & Documents
Template and Documents dialog appears
Select templates from the sidebar
Highlight your template
The Open button becomes ungreyed at the bottom of the dialog, click it
Update all Links yes / No appears, select No
Document should be open with a synchronize button available

The above mentioned is exactly the same as it is here.TheGurkha wrote:Go to File > New > Templates & Documents

The above doesn't appear here. No "Synchronize Labels" window popup on the screen.Update all Links yes / No appears, select No
If selecting;
File --> New --> Business Cards --> "Business Cards" tag --> New Document
Synchronize Labels window popup on the screen above the document opened.

Re: How to add template on Business Cards
I think whether you get the Synchronize button depends on whether the document contains (as far as OOo is concerned) labels. Which is how it handles Business Cards.
I went through the steps I listed again, and I get the Synchronize button.
As long as your original template was based on business cards or labels, and you save your template as previously described you should be fine.

Download a template file on Internet with .ott extension.
Open the template file on OO Writer
File --> Template --> Save
saved it on "My Template" directory and named it "businesscard"
Closed the template file on OO Writer.
Then;
File --> New --> "Templates and Documents
Selected businesscard on "My Template" directory and open the file on OO Writer. However no "Synchronize Labels" popup.
Further tried on OO Writer
File --> New --> Businesscards --> selected a template under "Business Cards" --> New Document
Opened the document on OO Writer. Edited the document as saved it. Restarted the saved document on OO Writer. "Synchronize Labels" popup immediately.
I think the new template download on Internet can't have "Synchronize Labels" popup. Unless I can save it on the "Business Cards" directory and evoke it on.
File --> New --> Businesscards --> selected the file under "Business Cards" directory --> New Document

That can't be right though otherwise it wouldn't work for mesatimis wrote:I think the new template download on Internet can't have "Synchronize Labels" popup. Unless I can save it on the "Business Cards" directory and evoke it on.

Attach the file you've downloaded and let me try with that.

Re: How to add template on Business Cards
I couldn't get it to work with that file either.
File > New > Business Cards
In the Medium Tab I selected
Brand - Avery A4/Asia
Selected Type - J21033 Business Cards
Selected Sheet radio button
(There are many different manufacturers and formats, these are just two i pikced at random).
In the Business Card Tab I selected Elegant, With Name, Without Slogan
I then clicked on New Document. In the new document I deleted everything I didn't want (which was everything).
Then I went to File > Template > Save and saved it in My Templates.
Closed OOo altogether, opened it up and then went to File > New > Templates and Documents
My Templates, highlighted the new template I just created, and hey presto, it opens with the Synchronization button, and with no formatting from the old business Card template used to create it.
hope this works for you. (I'm on Windows XP, OOo 2.4)

Re: How to add template on Business Cards (SOLVED)
You're welcome, we're all here to help. And I learned through the experience too.
It would be a good thing if you'd edit the title of your first post and delete the (Solved) from the end and add [Solved] to the start (that's the convention here).
