In microsoft office 2007 there is a very easy equations editor. This has proven very useful since i am a chemistry student, so, when I write papers I need to include equations. I use equations such as sub-scripts, super-scripts, fractions...and so on. Is there the same function in OpenOffice writer that is as simple and fast to use?

Yes, it's the Math module. You can call it from the Insert>Object>Formula menu.

Further information here : Getting Started with Math.

Thanks to add '[Solved]' in your first post title (edit button) if your issue has been fixed.

If you mean chemical reaction formulas I'm not sure that the formula editor is so easy; I haven't figured out yet how to prevent italics there.

For that I have to open Math, by the looks of it, it doesn't seem to work in Writer.

Thanks, it will take a bit longer. But that doesn't bother me.
