I hope someone can help. I have been using 2.3, but my program said to upgrade to 2.4, so I did. Then I went to open my document, and it is not there. It shows a path to a folder in the temp area, why there i do not know, but there is no file there. As the header says, this is a crisis, on deadline, suppose to be up all night finishing this project, and now I can't even find the file which has untold hours of sweat and labor.

Hope you can help.

Thank you

Jon

You could look in one of three folders in Tools >Options >oo.o >Paths (documents, backups and temporary files). There is also a tool for searching your whole system for a named file. Another Windows user should be able to provide you with details.

There are 'undelete' tools which can be used for finding the remains of a deleted file. Have you looked in the folder for deleted files? IIRC, it's called 'Trash' and it lives on the desktop.

What OS?
Have you tried to access your file by File>Recent documents?
Where the document was located? An upgrade has no impact on your OOo user profile or your documents.

I lost a critical Open Office CALC file, it is very important, i am on an unbelievable deadline tonight, a lot depends on it, untold hours of sweat and labor are involved, and serious consequences if it is not found tonight, and it has disappeared. Is there anyway you can help?
Lightscamera, mailshotting contributors is usually counter productive. My first comment is that if you have spent untold hours of sweat and labor" then you were unwise not to keep regular snapshot backups. Now to your problem. OOo and its installation process does not delete user documents. You have one of three problems
  1. You exited calc without saving the file in the first place.
  2. You've deleted the file. In this case try scanning the contents of Trash.
  3. You've stored it somewhere that you've mislaid. Do a search of your hard drive (all volumes) for "*.odt;*.xls" modified in the last week, including hidden folders
In case (1) and (2) / (3) if you can't find it then its gone and you will need to recreate it from scratch. Sorry
