[Solved] Help With Form Controls

Post by StormStrikes »

I am trying to make a form in LibreOffice. When I add a formatted text field, or any field for that matter and select 'Control' to set the appearance and such, nothing is popping up. Its like the function is not available though the button itself is clickable and I see it in the right-click context menu, but when I select it I get no options.

Can anyone tell me what it is that I am doing wrong?

Hello

I think :
select a control
press the control key and right click the mouse.

Thats not working either.

If you select text area, draw one on the document, then right click and select control, nothing shows up. If I highlight the field and then select control from the ribbon menu, nothing happens, though it should pop up a dialog box that lets me change the font, look and actions of the field.

Hello

It seems to me you do expect the wrong things. The best way is starting study tutorials. Also start study the complete helpfile about all the properties of the controls. When you want work with OOo-base and the control be prepared on hard study and it is not intuitive.

I think start here

So, am I to understand you correctly, that when you say I expect the wrong thing in that I should be able to right click and select control, per the documentation? Is that what you are telling me?

I have read much of the documentation, I make a lot of templates, spreadsheets and so on. But you are telling me that the documentation is wrong in that I should not be able to right click and be able to modify the field in anyway? I just have to accept it as its placed on the document? Because if that is what you are saying that is the complete opposite of what the documentation says.

I also tried adding a click button to the document, like an 'Okay' button which most definately should have some control properties so I can define its actions and I still get nothing. Right click, select control and I get nothing. Im wondering if its not some global setting I dont have activated, which would be strange, or I guess it could be some kind of bug but I would expect all kinds of help on that as it would affect a large swath of users.

PROVIDED a writer document is in edit mode, a selected control should have six green selection points around it. Right clicking on that control should then offer a menu from which normal clicking on the "Control" option should open the properties dialog:

If you are seeing something similar to the example above and the dialog is not opening, there would appear to be a problem with your installation.

Thats exactly what I am seeing but I do not get the properties dialog. So I suppose I will uninstall LibreOffice this evening after I am home from work and see if that corrects the issue. Thanks for your help. I will post back once I have more information after completing the re-installation.

Well that was what it was. I guess one of the recent updates in Ubuntu caused some kind of issue. After I uninstalled everything and then re-installed it everything works. I know can change the form field properties. Thanks for everyones help.

Perhaps then you will be so kind as to mark your thread as "Solved"

This bug report (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... bug/964838) explains it some more. You can't edit forms when the database component is not installed.
