I can't get swriter to save properly. I have never had a problem before. All of a sudden when I try to save, it saves the file as a generic file. I usually save my documents as office documents so I can use them at school. This happens no matter what type of file I try to save the document as.
By generic I mean just a general file. The file properties labels it as a "file" instead of an "opendocument" or "worddocument." When I double click on the file, I have to choose a program to open it with. There is no option to "open with" when I right-click like there should be.
I have tried to both repair and re-install openoffice, neither works.
please help
p.s.
I just found that I can save properly by manually typing in the file extension, but it will not do it automatically as it should.
ok, that was simple, lol, thanx

Re: not saving properly
Have you read the Forum Survival Guide?
What OS and OOo version are you using?
When you do File > Save, click the checkbox "Automatic file extension" = ON (checked) down at the bottom of the file dialog window.
